Blizzard in Windsor

10:56 PM, Tuesday February 1st, 2011

We are supposed to get between 8 and 12 inches (20-30 cm) of snow between tonight and tomorrow. The wind is now blowing pretty hard, it’s damned cold, and visibility out there already reduced drastically. Local radios and TV’s launched a blizzard warning, the first one since 1999. There will be some shoveling tomorrow morning! We just heard that school buses won’t be running tomorrow morning. School closings won’t be announced before the morning, and it’s possible that a few businesses will be closed as well. It’s recommended not to drive out there in the morning. We’ll see what happens.
Below an interesting satellite image of the beast, and a link to a picture Laurie took with her iPhone in front of the house around 8:30 PM:

Tim’s 26.2 blog and YurBuds giveway

I have (finally!) added Tim Wilson’s running blog to the list of running blogs I have on my own blog. Tim ran his first marathon around the same time I ran my first one and he already outran me! His last blog entry talks about trail running, which I don’t do at all (yet). I think I might like it as I always enjoyed going on the trails with my parents when I was younger, whether it was walking or biking. I never really went for a run on trails yet (except for a race which used half trails) and I’m sure there is nothing like running in the forest/nature.
Tim’s latest blog entry here: Running The Trails & Win a Pair of YurBuds!

For an additional giveway entry I’m supposed to mention it and link here, so done!

Happy training to Tim and good luck to me :)

2011. Ready? Set…go!

Ready? Set! Go!

New year, new resolutions, new projects.

The Ironman 70.3 project before turning 40 might be a little tough to reach. 2012 might arrive a little too soon. I have to buy a decent road bike and/or a base triathlon bike for this. With all the rest I will need between $1,000 and $2,000… the biggest chunk will be for the bike, the pedals with the special clips, and the special bike shoes. But there is also the multiple pairs of running shoes (2 needed for just one marathon, training + race), a wet suit for the swim leg (around $250), swimming lessons this year, and also the Ironman 70.3 entry fees (probably around $250). I realize I didn’t chose cheap sports afterall, but again, which sport is really cheap?

On January 1st, 2011, I signed up for the full Detroit marathon (October 16, 2011). They were offering special early bird prices before January 10th ($60 instead of $75). I couldn’t pass on that. For this second full marathon I’d like to break the 4 hours mark. It’s a little aggressive because I’m not a fast runner. Do better than my first full would probably be a more reasonable goal.

I started running again a couple of days ago. Muscles are already sore, proof that I didn’t do much for the last 3 months.
I’d like to do a couple of triathlons this year also, and eventually the half marathon in Tecumseh in July. We will see.

Another news: I bought myself (thank you Santa for the money) a waterproof belt/armband/earphones package for my iPhone so I can now run under the rain and also listen to my music while swimming!
I tried this for my first outdoor run of 2011 (and it was -3 Celsius), and it’s just ace! Next step will be to try it out in a swimming pool.

Happy hollidays!

2011, already. Times flies. Time to get back in shape and to plan for this new year.
For me, what’s for sure:
- swimming lessons before summer
- include core exercises and weight lifting in my training
- Tecumseh triathlon (the full one this time) in August
- Detroit full marathon (my second one) in October
What’s maybe:
- Leamington duathlon in June
- Tecumseh half marathon in July
- other small races throughout the year (5K,10K)
The objective here is to still keep the HIM (half Ironman) in mind for 2012. It will depend on my money savings. 2012 might not give me enough time (I need to buy myself a good road/triathlon bike for that).

What’s up for you? What’s your plan for this new year?

In the mean time, all the best to all for this new year 2011, joy and happiness, and most importantly a good health!

Happy New Year 2011!
